On the Road! Pt. 1

With list in hand and addresses mapped out, Jennifer and I hit the road to visit some of the smaller church parishes throughout the Diocese of Lake Charles. Jennifer has a passion for sharing more about the human person in light of God’s revelation, so come along with us on our journey!

On our first day of travel, we visited St. Theodore in Moss Bluff. We had a wonderful visit with Fr. Aubrey Guilbeau, who graciously welcomed our unannounced stop. From there, we traveled to St. Pius in Ragley, where two staff members warmly welcomed us and took time out of their busy day to visit. This faith community is still rebuilding after Hurricane Laura, and we were blessed to see the plans and beautiful stained-glass designs for their new church.

Next stop… St. Joseph in DeRidder, where we visited with Fr. Levi, who will soon be installed as pastor. Our final stop for the day was Our Lady of LaSalette in DeQuincy. Although no one was available for our visit, we left our information and look forward to returning.

Day two took us to Our Lady Help of Christians in Jennings. This beautiful church is like a little cathedral in the heart of town. We enjoyed a lovely conversation with the Faith Formation Coordinator and hope to meet Fr. Keith on a future visit.

From there, we traveled to Immaculate Conception in Jennings. While we missed the priest, the parish secretary warmly welcomed us and generously shared some of her time to speak with us.

We couldn’t travel through Jennings without making our way to Our Lady of the Lake in Lake Arthur!

Unfortunately, we missed both the pastor and the Faith Formation Coordinator there as well, but the secretary greeted us as friends rather than strangers. We then journeyed on to Raymond to visit a former pastor of both Jennifer and me, Fr. Bill Miller, at St. Lawrence. It was a sweet reunion and a joy to catch up. Our final stop was Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Welsh, where we visited with the parish secretary despite the busyness of Vacation Bible School week.

Thank you for joining us on our travels. We’ll have more stories to share in the weeks ahead! If you’d like us to visit your parish, please let us know… we would love to meet with you!

*Editor’s Note: In case you missed the announcement, Image & Gift is on the road this summer, visiting parishes to offer our reflection series, From Brokenness to Healing, for free to any parish willing to host it (and us)! If you would like Jennifer and Anita to stop in your area, please leave the church parish and town where it is located in the comments, or email us at events@imageandgift.com.
